Bagasse Pellet Machine – Product Overview

The bagasse pellet machine is a specialized piece of equipment designed to process sugarcane bagasse—a by‑product of sugar mills—into high‑quality biomass fuel pellets. Through an integrated production line comprising crushing, drying, pelletizing, cooling, and packaging, this machine transforms wet bagasse (initial moisture content of 48‑50%) into cylindrical pellets of 6‑12 mm in diameter. The finished pellets deliver a calorific value of 3,400‑5,500 kcal/kg, making them an excellent substitute for conventional fuels like coal and diesel. They are widely used in industrial boilers, power plants, and residential heating systems.

Adopting a bagasse pellet mill not only adds value to agricultural waste but also significantly reduces fuel costs. With its unique advantages—renewability, high energy density, and low emissions—bagasse pellet fuel occupies a strong position in the biomass pellet market and holds broad development potential.

Working Principle of the Alfalfa Pellet Making Machine

The fundamental operating principle is simple yet effective: mechanical pressure compresses ground alfalfa into high‑density pellets. The machine comprises four main systems:

  • Feeding System – Delivers raw material uniformly into the compression chamber via a screw feeder or forced‑feeding mechanism.

  • Compression System – High‑pressure rollers force the material through the die holes, where friction and heat cause the lignin to soften and bind the particles together.

  • Molding System – The die determines pellet diameter (2‑8 mm), while an integrated cutter trims extruded pellets to uniform length.

  • Discharging System – Finished pellets are expelled from the chamber and conveyed to the cooling stage.

This continuous, automated process ensures consistent product quality with minimal manual intervention.

Raw Material Processing – From Alfalfa to Pellets

Alfalfa of varying sizes, physical states, and moisture contents can be used for pelleting. The key difference lies in the pre‑processing steps required:

  • Fresh or baled alfalfa is first chopped and then dried to reduce moisture.

  • The dried material is ground through a hammer mill to achieve a consistent particle size.

  • Further drying in a rotary dryer ensures the feedstock reaches the ideal moisture content (around 10‑14%) for optimal pellet compression.

  • The conditioned powder is then fed into the ring‑die pellet mill for high‑pressure densification.

  • Hot pellets exiting the mill are conveyed to a counter‑flow cooler, where they are gently cooled to ambient temperature.

  • Finally, the cooled pellets are screened and packaged using a pellet packaging machine.

No matter what proportion of alfalfa or grass makes up your formula, our pelletizing equipment delivers consistent, value‑added results.

Main Applications

Alfalfa pellets produced by our machines find wide application across multiple industries:

1. Animal Feed (Primary Use)

Alfalfa pellets are an excellent feed source for livestock, horses, poultry, and ruminants such as cattle and sheep. Rich in protein, vitamins, and essential minerals, they promote healthy growth, improve milk production, and enhance overall animal performance. The pelleting process improves digestibility and reduces feed waste.

2. Biomass Pellet Fuel

Alfalfa can also be processed into renewable biomass fuel pellets. As a sustainable energy source, alfalfa pellets can replace fossil fuels in power generation, industrial heating, and residential stoves, offering a clean‑burning, carbon‑neutral alternative.

3. Soil Conditioner & Organic Fertilizer

Alfalfa pellets are rich in organic matter and nutrients. When applied to soil, they improve soil structure, boost fertility, enhance water retention, and stimulate microbial activity. This makes them an excellent natural soil amendment for sustainable agriculture.

4. Aquaculture & Pet Feed

Processed alfalfa pellets are increasingly used in aquaculture feed formulations and as a nutritious ingredient in pet food.

5. Horticultural Substrates & Cat Litter

Some customers also utilize our equipment to produce cat litter pellets and growing substrates for horticultural applications, demonstrating the machine’s exceptional versatility.

Why Pelletize Alfalfa?

Processing alfalfa into pellet form offers numerous practical benefits:

  • Improved Feed Utilization – Pelleting enhances the digestibility of cellulose and protein, allowing animals to absorb nutrients more efficiently.

  • Convenient Storage & Transportation – Compared to hay or fresh forage, alfalfa pellets are dense, compact, and far easier to store and transport, significantly reducing space requirements and logistics costs.

  • Enhanced Feed Quality – Pelleted alfalfa maintains stable quality, is less susceptible to mold and contamination, and provides consistent nutritional value.

  • Reduced Waste – Pelleting minimizes dust and spoilage, ensuring more of the product is actually consumed.

  • Year‑Round Availability – Pellets can be stored for extended periods, ensuring a reliable feed supply even during off‑seasons.

ZZCHRYSO Alfalfa Pellet Machine – FAQ

10–14%. Too dry causes excessive wear; too wet makes soft, cracked pellets. Use a rotary dryer with online moisture sensors for consistent control.

Usually from uneven feed, worn die holes, or incorrect roller gap (should be 0.1–0.3 mm). Also check moisture consistency and cutter sharpness.

Answer: The ring die and rollers are consumable wear parts. Their lifespan depends on the abrasiveness of the raw material, production load, and maintenance practices. When processing bagasse (which is fibrous with some silica content), the ring die usually lasts for 800‑1,200 tonnes of output, while rollers typically last 1.5‑2 times longer. Spare parts costs generally account for 5‑8% of total production expenses. We advise keeping one set of spare ring die and rollers on site and scheduling replacements during routine maintenance shutdowns to minimise downtime. High‑chromium alloy or stainless steel ring dies offer extended service life.

For up to 2–3 t/h, choose a smaller ring‑die model. For 4–5 t/h or more, go with a larger industrial unit. Consider your daily running hours and power supply capacity.

About 60–80 kWh per tonne and 2–3 operators per shift. Total operating cost (excluding raw material) is roughly USD 20–30 per tonne.

We offer on‑site installation, operator training, remote diagnostics, and spare parts in stock. One‑year warranty on the machine, with lifetime technical support.
