Working principle of Branch & Bark Briquetting Press Machine

The briquetting process is based on compaction and the thermoplastic behavior of lignin. Prepared biomass (shredded and dried to 10-15% moisture) is fed into the press chamber. Intense mechanical pressure (up to several thousand psi) is applied, forcing the material through a tapered die. The resulting friction generates heat (150-200°C), which softens the natural lignin present in the wood fibers. This softened lignin acts as an internal binder. Under continued pressure, the particles are fused together and extruded as a solid, dense briquette, which cools and hardens upon exiting the die.
