Wood pellet mill is special equipment for processing wood pellets. It can use agricultural and forestry waste of different types, shapes, sizes and moisture contents as raw materials. It can realize pellet processing of one or more materials. The world’s most popular modern pelletizer, the ring die wood pellet mill, is going through an evolution.
The ring die pellet mill is the key component in a complete biomass pellet plant. It is mostly used to process wood materials like wood chips, sawdust, tree branches, logs, and so on, so it is a kind of large-scale wood pellet maker. Also, it can process other raw materials like palm fiber, sugarcane bagasse, peanut shells, corn stalks, wheat straw, and many other agro-wastes.
Primary ZZCHRYSO Wood Pellet Mill Types
Vertical Ring Die Wood Pellet Mill
The vertical ring die pellet mill is a new type of pellet press that has combined the features of both traditional ring die pellet mills and flat die pellet machines. This pellet making machine is specially designed for making biomass pellets from raw materials with crude fiber, like rice husks, peanut shells, palm fibers, etc., and it also can be used to make animal feed, organic fertilizer, compound fertilizer, and bio-fertilizer at lower temperatures.
Horizontal Ring Die Wood Pellet Mill
The horizontal ring die pellet machine is a kind of pellet fuel-forming machine that uses corn stalks, straw, hibiscus, wood powder, wood chips, and other agricultural waste as raw materials. The final pellets can be used as biomass fuel for fireplaces, boilers, and power plants. The horizontal ring die type pellet mill is used for large-scale pellet production of biomass fuel pellets and feed pellets.
Ring Die Animal Feed Pellet Machine
The ring die feed pellet machine is a type of feed machinery for commercial purposes, belonging to the industrial pellet mill. The basic function of a ring die feed pellet mill is to produce high-quality pelleted feeds for chickens, cattle, pigs, horses, ducks, etc. in large-scale feed pellet plants. The ring die animal feed pellet mill is used to press powdery feed raw materials into feed pellets through the ring die holes under water and heat conditioning.
Features of Ring Die Pellet Mill
Raw Materials for Wood Pellet Mill
The raw materials used in wood pellets processing mainly come from by-products of forestry and wood processing industries or energy forests planted specifically, including direct forestry raw materials (sawdust, wood chips, Forest residues), wood industry by-products (Shavings, Off-cuts, Plywood/MDF waste), energy forests and fast-growing tree species (Willow, Poplar, Eucalyptus, Pine, Spruce), agricultural waste (corn stalks, rice husks, sugarcane bagasse, peanut shells, sunflower shells, Palm kernel shells, olive branches, grapevines, etc.), recycled wood (construction waste wood, pallets, packaging boxes, park branches, shrub prunings), etc.
As can be seen from the above, the raw materials of wood pellets are mainly forestry and wood processing residues, supplemented by energy forests and agricultural waste. You can use a single raw material or multiple raw materials at the same time. When selecting raw materials, cost, sustainability, combustion efficiency and local resource endowment should be comprehensively considered.

Working Principle of Ring Die Wood Pellet Mill
The wood pellet mill is mainly composed of a feed port, a compression chamber, a discharge port and an electrical control system. Among them, the compression chamber is the core part of the granulator. It is composed of multiple compression molds and can compress waste wood materials such as sawdust into pellets. The quality and quantity of compression molds are important factors affecting the performance of the wood pellet mill machine.
With the gravity power, the centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the ring die, and the feeding scraper, the steam conditioned powder materials will be evenly fed into the two pressing areas in the ring die, which is a wedge-shaped space formed by the ring die and the two rollers.
Under the strong pressure between the ring die and the pressing rollers, the materials are gradually compacted, squeezed into the die hole of the ring die and formed to pellets in the die hole.
Because the extrusion of the material between the die and the roller is continuous, the formed material is continuously discharged from the die hole in the shape of a column, and then cut by the cutter into particles with the required length.
Ring Die Wood Pellet Mill Pelletizing Process
Wood pellets are produced in a pelletizing chamber, which mainly comprises a ring die, rollers, feeding scraper, and cutter. Please refer to the following information for the processing steps of a ring die wood pellet mill:
- Crushed and dried raw materials are sent into two pelletizing zones through the die cover and feeding scraper.
- When the ring die is driven to rotate by the hollow shaft driving wheels, the materials that have been fed in are drawn into the space between the die and rollers.
- After undergoing repeated friction and the pressing force of the die and rollers, the raw materials are reshaped and extruded out through the ring die.
- The molded pellets are then cut into the required size by the cutter and discharged from the ring die wood pelleting machine.

Applications Of Wood Pellet Mill
Wood pellet mill machiness are mainly used to process various wood-based pellets. The processed pellets are mainly used as fuel (replacing traditional energy sources such as coal and natural gas), animal litter (cat litter, litter for stables and poultry farms), industrial raw materials (activated carbon, cellulosic ethanol, etc.), home fireplace fuel, barbecue charcoal substitutes, etc.
Generally speaking, the following customers will invest in wood pellet mill and wood peleltizing systems:
- Wood processing and forestry enterprises: sawmills, furniture factories, plywood factories, paper mills and other wood processing enterprises.
- Biomass energy producers: energy companies, power stations, rural cooperatives, family workshops, etc.
- Agriculture and breeding operators: large farms (such as dairy farms, chicken farms), equestrian clubs, pet bedding suppliers, cat litter companies, pet supplies companies, etc.
- Industrial boilers and heating companies: food processing plants, textile mills and other industrial enterprises that require a stable heat source. Regional heating companies (such as central heating systems)
- Others: households and small users, governments and non-profit organizations, traders and exporters, scientific research institutions and universities, etc.
